Car insurance — duty and responsibility

Car insurance — duty and responsibility

Compulsory motor third-party liability insurance (CMTPL) is a type of insurance coverage that compensates for damages caused to other road users as a result of traffic accidents for which the driver of the car insured under this policy is responsible. MTPL insurance is mandatory for all car owners and is an important means of ensuring financial liability for possible damage.

The main features of MTPL insurance:

  • Mandatory: In many countries, including Ukraine, MTPL is a mandatory type of insurance for all car owners.
  • Coverage of losses to other road users: The CTPCI compensates for material and moral damages caused to other road users as a result of an accident caused by the driver of the insured car.
  • Minimum amount of coverage: Each country sets a minimum amount of coverage for which a car must be insured. This amount indicates how much the insurer is liable for the maximum amount of damage.
  • Mobile policy: In most cases, a CTP policy can be presented in a mobile format on a smartphone or other electronic device. This is convenient for monitoring and presenting the policy on the road.
  • Insurance premiums: The cost of MTPL insurance usually depends on several factors, such as the driver's age, driving experience, car make and model, engine size, and other parameters.
  • Insurance period: Typically, MTPL insurance is issued for one year, after which it needs to be renewed.

The process of obtaining an insurance policy

The process of obtaining a motor vehicle liability insurance policy (CTP) may look like this:

  • Choosing an insurance company: First, you need to choose an insurance company that provides CTP insurance. You can compare different companies, their rates, coverage, and services, but with SHARK you will definitely get professional service.
  • Collection of information: The insurance company will require certain information from you, such as driver's data, car data (make, model, year of manufacture, engine size, etc.), driving experience, and other details.
  • Calculation of the insurance premium: Based on the information collected, the insurance company will calculate the insurance premium, which is the amount you will have to pay for insurance.
  • Issuing a policy: After you agree to the terms and conditions of the insurance and the premium, you will need to fill out an insurance application and sign the contract. You will usually receive a paper or electronic policy.
  • Payment of the insurance premium: You will have to pay the insurance premium to activate the insurance policy.
  • Receiving the insurance policy: After paying the premium, you will receive a valid MTPL insurance policy. This policy will contain information about you, your car, and the terms of insurance.
  • Mandatory monitoring and updating: Usually, a CTP insurance policy is issued for a limited period of time (for example, one year). When the policy expires, you will need to renew it by paying a new insurance premium.

It is important to note that when applying for a motor third party liability insurance policy, you must comply with the terms and conditions of insurance established by the insurance company and the laws of the country. If you have any additional questions regarding the process of obtaining CTPCI, we recommend that you contact our company's representatives.

Renewal of CTPCI

Re-issuance of CTPCI (motor third party liability insurance) may occur for various reasons, such as the sale of a car, change of ownership, change of registration address, etc. Here's a general overview of how to renew your CTPCI:

  • Contacting the insurance company: First of all, you should contact your insurance company and inform them of the changes that require re-registration of CTP. This can be done in person, by phone, or online.
  • Provide the necessary documents: The insurance company may require certain documents to be provided in order to renew. This may be, for example, a car sale document, a statement from the previous or new owner, a change of registration address, and so on.
  • Calculation of a new insurance premium: After providing the necessary documents, the insurance company can calculate a new insurance premium depending on the changes you have made. The new premium may be higher or lower, depending on the risks associated with the changes.
  • Issuing a new policy or making changes: After the new premium is calculated, the insurance company can issue a new insurance policy or make appropriate changes to an existing policy.
  • Paying the new insurance premium: If the new premium is higher, you will need to pay the difference. If it is lower, you may be refunded the difference from your previous premium.
  • Getting a new policy: After making the changes and paying the new premium, you will receive a new MTPL insurance policy or a renewed policy with the relevant changes.
  • Data verification: It is important to make sure that the data in the new policy is correct and accurate, as any errors may affect the validity of the insurance coverage.

If you have any specific questions about renewing your MTPL insurance, we recommend that you contact the insurance company or insurance regulatory authority for more information.
